4.5 month old Neap mastiff limping from left hip right after spay surgery! HELP!!

She never limped before, picked her up today (surgery was yesterday) and she limps favoring her rear left leg.
Vet cant even tell me if that was the hip they injected for anesthesia..... She wants to say its hip dysplasia. How can she develop such a major limp from one day to the next from hip dysplasia??
Has this happened to anyone here. Any advice on how to help my dog please?

Could she have been injured from the leg positioning during surgery, from retractors during the surgery? I just want to see if theres anything I can do now to help her recover. Vet says she doesnt know anything....
I got brie(puppy) with all the certificates certifying no hip problems in the parents.... I know its no guarantee but she plays with my 2 year old english mastiff male every day and never limped or whined that anything hurt. Her leg doesnt seem to hurt now but she clearly cant lift it well , almost seems like foot drop and she sits with the left hip out slightly.
Thank you for any help you can provide.

I agree with Hulk. I would wait, when my boy (not a mastiff) got neutered he cried and refused to walk anywhere for 2 days. Turns out he was fine and just being a sook. Maybe he just has a low pain threshold and his leg is a bit tender so he is favoring it a bit :) I would be patient before I assumed the worst

First 4.5 months Is way to early to spay a mastiff. should waited till 18 to 24 months.
As for the limp follow what is listed above.

I definitely understand your concern, but I would agree with Thor. Perhaps it's a little achy? I'd wait until Monday to reevaluate unless it increases drastically during the weekend.

Make sure your vet documented the initiation of this limp... if they did do something that caused it, they should take care of any costs for the remedy.

I would guess & hope that it's just a muscle cramp from sitting on the operating table and in confinement at the vet's office for so long... I'd keep her on restricted exercise, but get her up for short, slow walks to keep everything moving and hopefully flush the leftovers from surgery out in a few days. You need to keep her on a low-exercise regime from the spay, anyway... no rough-housing with the other dogs!! Need to wait at least until the stitches come out for any energetic excursions.

You might also give her a good massage, and see if you can detect a muscle knot on that side...

Could be the way they tied her legs back for the surgery...too tight possibly? I would definitely hold them responsible if she doesn't recover soon.

Yeah, i asked if it could have been the positioning or a retractor causing pressure injury on the nerve. Of course she saud no. To her its hip dysplasia period. Im an anesthesiologist, she doesnt know what I do, but I know for sure the frogleg position can cause stretch nerve injuries in pregnant patients during delivery as well as can retractors used during pelvic surgery. I dont know how this is for dogs though. Also the initial sedative im injection could damage the sciatic if injected to it. The vet says they cant remember which hip they injected( they cant remember exactly 24 hours later?) and that they are not required to document the side or site of injection. I have to take her somewhere else for xrays. This vet is crap. She is trying to tell me that coincidentally to her happening to have surgery overnight she developed severe symptoms of a chronic debilitating condition for which she showed to signs of before. Im so sad for brie, she has such a hard time getting up, cant run and barely walks lifting her left leg but her foot doesnt go up before she puts the leg down like a foot drop injury in a person.

OMG, I'm so sorry that the vet is blowing you off and not taking responsibility. I would keep copies of the dog's records from that vet to take to the new vet.

Where are you located?
