I'm doing a 30 day fitness challenge with Thalia. It's from a group on FB called Working Dogs of the Past and Present. It doesn't technically start until Saturday, but I'm sure everyone is trying to get a head start.

Day 1:

Morning exercise total: 46 mins 39 seconds

Fetch (flat ground + on hill) 33 minutes 07 seconds

Spring pole 2 minutes 04 seconds

Frisbee 5 minutes 35 seconds

Flirt pole 5 minutes 51 seconds

Super crappy iPhone photo after our exercise

Oh my goodness! She looks fantastic! My Yogi could stand to lose a couple pounds. However, I could NEVER get him to play fetch for over 30 minutes. I think his record is about 10, lol. I had to teach him using a clicker and treats. He's the laziest dog I've ever seen in my life.

I'm going to track her daily exercise here with photos so we can all see the progress in her physical condition.

LOL you had to clicker train fetch?! Oh dear!

Thalia is NON STOP. She would play fetch for hours if I was able to. I tire out a lot quicker than she does haha!

The challenge was posted because people tend to lose their motivation to be out with their dogs when it's cold/rainy/gloomy. I know that definitely applies to me, but at the same time, I am competitive. So, we are going to be out there every day working our butts off! Before and after photos will be posted on the page after the 30 days and the dog with the most 'likes' will win some dog gear. :)

I did have to clicker train fetch, lol. When we started, I could get him to retrieve 3 times...He's very low drive... That was one of the main reasons I stared nosework was to help build drive. And ya, I lose motivation when it gets yucky out, too. So do my dogs, lol. It's easy to be a lazy dog owner when you have lazy dogs! I'm excited to see your progress! And speaking of excercising, it's supposed to rain here this afternoon, so I'm gonna go get Lillie's walk in on my lunch!

After lunch exercise total 36 mins 03 seconds

Walking while pulling 10-12 pound chain 15 mins 01 second (1.5 kilometer, approx)

Frisbee 20 minutes 02 seconds

Ps. Thalia is about 25 pounds. :)

And a video of Angus and Thalia playing tug with the frisbee. Guess who wins the battle?! I'll give you a hint... My little red dog ALWAYS wins.

Just look at her muscle definition. And she's just an itty bitty little thing! I HAVE to get Yogi in better shape, he's a fatty fat fat compared to Thalia

HeeHee! Poor Angus... Your little red dog is CUT! Such a happy smile, too! :)

I know! She always beats him! He tosses her around like a rag doll, but she always prevails. Must be quite the blow to his ego LOL especially because that's his "momma dog". Not biologically, but she adopted him in every sense of the word when we brought him home. You never want to be shown up by your momma...

Join the 30 day challenge!

Better yet, we should start our own 30 day challenge on the forum. Keep us all motivated in maintaining k9 fitness through these dreary, depressing months. :)

Max wants to know if by fetch, you mean he has to go get it when I throw it...and if so, why?

Yes, that's exactly what I mean! It's supposed to be fun, but it's not an activity that suits every dog.

I'm impressed that you managed to train fetch. Nothing could make Kryten want to run after something and then bring it to me so that I could make him do it again. The closest I got was he plays defence and gets in the way when Jiggers tries to go after the ball, takes far less effort on his part.

Roxy likes to chase but as soon as it's done running or "dead" she loses all interest. Hank looks at me like, "Ya right, you want ME to go get that? I'm busy trying to hold down the front stairs." I know what you mean by lack of motivation in the nasty weather. I've been lacking on the walks front due to inclement weather. Roxy will pay tug for about ~5mins. Even that becomes too much effort before long. I have lazy dogs.

Thalia has all this energy at 25 lbs. Hank has little to no energy unless its running from outside to the kitchen at a pretty lean 180 lbs. lol. BUT Hanks lost 8 lbs in the last month. Lets see Thalia do THAT :lolbangtable:

Hank definitely has her best in that department. I think she would nearly disappear if she lost 8 pounds! Hahaha

I really wanted lazy dogs, but mine haven't realized they are EM's yet. They love their morning walks, although they didn't get one yesterday and won't get one today. They do have a lot of down time during the day, but they get up at 5am and are non-stop until about 8. Then down for the count until about 3 and up again till 6. Well I guess a total of 6 hours a day up is pretty normal for the breed. But they like to run and jump and torture during this time as well.

I should add that Thalia loves the flirt pole and understands that she is going for the toy tied to it. Angus doesn't get that and goes for the pvc pipe, which usually results in him completely knocking me over.
