17 week corso weight concerns

Hey everyone,

I have a beautiful cane she is 17 week old, and I am slightly concern with her weight, she is currently 25lb. I have seen that they weight about 40 lbs at her age... While talking to the breeder she told me she was the runt of the litter, however I have only had her for two weeks and she has gained 11 lb in two weeks.. Any advice is welcomed....thanks in advance

Hi
Well, she is a little underweight IMO but...if she gained more than 10lbs in 2 weeks i wouldn't worry so much...if she eats properly i think she is gonna catch up

In my uneducated opinion, I would only worry if I could visibly see there ribs, or not be able to feel there ribs. Besides that I would think your pup will catch up. My Corso was way undersized early on and now seems to be ahead of the curve.

11 pounds in 2 weeks sounds FAST! Our EM averaged 0.5lb/day at that age.

She'll catch up eventually, and it's better not to rush it. As the others pointed out - keep track of how she feels around her ribs, and go from there. Don't worry about what the scale says.

I personally like to see 2 if not 3 ribs on my dogs. Leaner is better in the long run. Healthier growth. She will be as large as she is genetically predispositioned to be :) just enjoy her, feed her quality food and be sure she gets enough exercise :)
