bald.jpgThis is Archie's bald patch. It goes all the way to his upper chest. You can see how it is starting to go up the sides. His ears are getting worse as well.

That's what coco is sort of like although it's so hard to see clearly because she's such a light colour! I can see what you mean our staffie had exactly the same as Archie (but we had just adopted him and he did In fact have fleas) what I'm going to do/have started to do is change her meals and will deflea her again even though it was done just a couple of weeks ago as puppies are PRONE to fleas!!!! And then give it at least a week to see if there's been any change if not vet I guess!

Boogie, what kind of dog food did you change to. That may be what i need to do. I am feeding adult natures domain grain free turkey mixed with some natures domain canned turkey. Archie is 11 weeks. Should i switch to a large breed puppy formila?

My guess, if fleas and mange have been ruled out, would be an allergy. Many mastiff's have sensitivities to chicken/poultry. It could also be due to laundry detergent or a type of cleaner you might use. Or it could be a seasonal allergy?

Maybe it has something to do with the dog's immune system. Overtime with better nutrition, the dog will grow its fur back.

There are so many "ifs" with hair loss. You ruled out fleas? You ruled out environmental allergy? You are feeding grain free but not poultry free (chicken allergy). Maybe try a different flavor in the same dog food brand so you do not have to do a slow transition.

When we brought him home we took him to vet next day for a runny nose when i noticed he had a tick on his paw in the vet office. I looked closer and we pulled off three ticks. The vet gave hin a flea and tick ointment and that has been cleared. The vet noticed his hair was on the the thin side but didnt worry too much about it. I took him back cuz his antibiotic did not clear up his nose. His fur was losing more hair so they did a skin scrape and no mites. They gave him another antibiotic which did work on clearing his sinus. His skin is not red or itchy, his stool is firm and right color, and his hair loss is even not patchy. Ill try changing foods. Im just afraid he'll end up completely bald.

I cant really recomend any dog food, because dogs have different systems. Just like humans we have different types of allergies with different foods. But i moved from purina to beefpro.

You've only had him a couple weeks right? If this food is new to him (you started him on it after you got him) don't switch him right away, give him at least 6 weeks on the new food.

Try adding a fish oil or coconut oil to his diet, and give him a little time. Changing homes is stressfull, changing diets is stressfull, and if he wasn't getting proper nutrition before that could be the cause.

If you're really concerned about his thyroid its a simple bloodtest your vet can do, but haven't had a cat with thyroid problems its not that hard to manage.....

Thanks all for your input. Ruthcatrin I think you may be right. I gave been giving him wild salmon oil for the past week. I actually just noticed his ears getting darker from the tips up. I hope thats a good sign.

Took Archie to vet again! This time the scrape showed demodex. I'm happy it is not his thyroid or hormonal issues.
