Drastic reduction in stinky / smelly dog with diet change?

It‘s hard to tell, I agree with Zeela, since it is so subjective. Have you and your wife owned dogs before that smelled less? Also, when did he have a full bath? That makes a big difference in our Mastiff. Depending on season and activities, our routine is to get one done every 4-8 weeks. As far as the general smell in the house is concerned, we have used air purifiers, which are very effective (also for people with allergies). Other than that, slobber in combination with carpets can be smell. Our Mastiffs eats treats on one of the carpets and sleeps on it, so I‘m probably going to have it steam cleaned soon.

We gave Koa a bath about 6-8 weeks ago. He (more specifically the kitchen where he roams) smells fine for about a week. Then the odors start setting in. Yes we have had dogs that smelled. Specifically a GSD that had full access to the carpeted house. But he (subjectively) didn’t smell quite as bad as Koa. This is surprising because not only does Koa have considerably less hair than a GSD, but now we no longer have carpet and Koa is only allowed in the kitchen. And another thing, Koa sheds quite a bit, almost as much as a GSD. Now that it’s gotten colder, he doesn’t shed as much but when I use a Furminator on him (everyday) the amount of loose hair I get never stops!

We have toyed with the idea of an air purifier. What do u recommend?

I have a bunch of doggie perfumes. Lol. Superficially they make him smell better but that mystery smell is still in the air. Drives the wife crazy. And frankly I’m embarrassed when guests come over. I wonder if it has to do with his slobber since he often shakes his head and slings slobber everywhere. And yes, I do clean his ears several times a week and wipe his paws with baby wipes every time he comes in from outside. He does have brown ear wax, not too bad since I clean his ears 2-3 times a week. But he fights me like I’m riding a bull at the rodeo when I try to put Epi-Otic in his ears.
i think it is part of owning a big dog. i just tell my friends, hey, welcome to my barn! lol... she's worth it so....i just make sure that I smell good. :p

I‘m not an expert on this by any means. Based on my research, you can find models ranging from $50-$500. I guess it depends a lot on the size of the room you are trying to cover. We have one in our bedroom (no dog access), which was about $100 (Amazon choice item). It works pretty well, but we user a stronger model downstairs. They usually indicate the coverage in square feet.
