Hi everyone :) my name is Jo and am pretty much new to the whole mastiff breed. It's my first time having a mastiff (I'm used to smaller dogs though familiar with larger breeds). I joined this forum to learn more about the breed as well as how to train, take care of my pup Pudge.

Here are photos of him btw. I'm not 100% sure what exact breed he is. The person I got him from said he was a bullmastiff but I'm not really sure. Me and my boyfriend had always wanted to have a mastiff/larger breed ever since his great dane died last year and my daschund/havanese mix died last march.

It's been pretty lonely before but now so lively.

I wanted to know if anybody can help me in trying to figure out which specific type he is. He's 3 months old now around 14kg as of date.

Welcome! Well...I'm not sure, but, maybe a mix...? Bull and Cane? Did the owner have a Bull, is that why they said he was Bull or was one parent a Bull?

At any rate, he's a lovely little fellow and we are glad you joined our pack. Now, we need pictures. We're all puppy crazy here and pics melt our hearts.

Lots of info to be had for sure, and don't be afraid to ask. If you are in a hurry (especially in the summertime because of members being away) you can always use the search engine for specific questions. There is a wealth of knowledge stored in the archives.

And, again, WELCOME!:)

Thanks for the reply! She said both parents were bullmastiffs and even showed me the picture. One was brindle and the other was same color as my pup

What a Cutie!

The head shape doesn't look totally BM to me... but it's often hard to tell with puppies where they'll end up.

The weight is definitely on for a BM.... 14kg at 3 months, based on my chart (3 months is ~24% of full grown) puts him around 130lbs (59kg) as an adult... right in the BM ballpark, for sure.

Thank you so much for the reply! Right now he just turned 4 months and weighs around 16-17kg. He's so heavy right now lol... He doesn't have the dark snout like others and his head shape is a bit different from normal BMs.

He feels more like a boerboel look a like but I ain't sure since I'm not an expert on this. His coat is starting to darken on some areas particularly his forehead which has this perfectly V-shape lol

His feet are huge too.

Btw, what do you guys recommend for his food? I feed him puppy food (he eats a ton) but a lot of people here at my place recommends raw meat preferably beef and chicken. Is that ok? They say it makes their fur much fuller and the pup healthier. Can anyone help me?

Welcome! He is just beautiful! There are some on the forum who feed raw. I feed kibble - Canidae. If you do kibble you may want to look for an all stages one or a large breed specific one to promote slow growth. I also would avoid kibble with any chicken or corn in it. We like limited ingredient Salmon or limited ingredient lamb formulas. Neither of mine are on puppy food any longer so we just feed limited ingredient Salmon Canidae and they do well on that. My Diesel has a chicken allergy (which is fairly common) so we have always fed limited ingredient foods.

Oh also I forgot to mention you can always do genetic testing if you are super curious to know exact breed.

I'm not sure if I can do any genetic testing here since I'm not in the US anymore. The kibble I feed him is lamb based but have started to introduce him to raw which he seems perfectly fine with. He eats around 3.5kg kibble a week (twice a day feed due to work) and gets plenty of exercise and playtime with our other dogs.

He has huge paws but not a lot of wrinkles
