Dog food switch

I am currently feeding my almost 6 month old presa male holistic select large breed puppy food. I am thinking about switching it due to his gas and inconsistent stools. I was wonder what you guys were feeding your fur babies?! Thanks in advance!

I feed a limited ingredient kibble which is grain and poultry free. Diesel is allergic to poultry in dog food and even most dog foods that say lamb or salmon still use chicken stock for flavoring so the limited ingredient food works really well for us since it only has 5 ingredients. The other thing is we have to really measure out his food and stick to the amount. He will eat as much as we give him and when he eats even a little more his stools get less solid.

So my advice whenever there is food issues is

#1 Monitor the amount you feed. If you think you might be overfeeding then cut back a tiny amount.
#2 Avoid poultry and grains in your food - limited ingredient foods are the easiest way to do that - lots of dogs are allergic to poultry and grains so it's the easiest one to eliminate from the diet to see if it helps.
#3 If the stools are really a mess try to doing boiled chicken and white rice for a few meals. It is a great reset for their system. Also yes I mentioned my Diesel is allergic to poultry in kibble but real boiled chicken doesn't bother him a bit . It's only the processed chicken (or turkey) in kibbles that he has the allergic reaction to.

Thank you for getting back to me. Little back ground on my baby...when he was about 2 months old he broke his jaw and had to have surgery. He has really came a long way! He has never turned food down even when he was hurt...it just takes him a little longer to eat than I would assume it would for another dog of his size and age. His stools are not terribly messy or anything. They are just not super firm. I just want to make sure that he is getting the proper nutrients that he needs. I have done countless hours or research on his food and calcium content. It can get overwhelming. I don't think I am over feeding him. My husband seems to think I don't feed him enough. How much do you feed yours a day? As for the chicken I have never given him any food with chicken bc I have heard that most mastiffs do have that allergy.

Mine get 1 3/4 cups of their kibble twice a day. Once in the morning and once in the evening. I occasionally give treats and snacks during the day in between but try not to over do the extra treats and snacks
