Eye problems (Entropion??).. 2yr old corso Help!!

HI everyone... I have a 2 yr old male corso. We have literally been to the vet every other month for ear infections and now his eye(s). Originally the vet wasn't to concerned there was no color and no odor. After a few more visits (with his ears) I kept asking about his eye. They looked around and really found nothing but thought maybe something with plasmic ( I don't recall the exact words). I was sent home with a steroid eye drop. Had his follow up and still no change and in fact it seemed worse (redness). Now they did the whole check up again and even looked under his 3rd eyelid and found no loose hairs or anything that seemed to bother it. However he has an ulcer starting. We had to stop with the steroid drop and go on an antibiotic drop for a week 3x's a day. Still no change .. in fact now his other eye is getting bad.. He paws at them and its constantly leaking and blinking.. I have to get to the root of this I feel so helpless. Im thinking it may be Entropion?? Has anyone else had these problems????

Have you looked at switching foods? Chronic ear infections are often a sign of an allergy... food is normally the first and easiest thing to change and see if you can get some improvements.
If you haven't gone both grain-free and chicken-free yet, that's a good place to start. Switching to a home-prepared raw diet would be another option.

That the symptoms are getting worse is not good. :(

Maybe see if your vet would be ok with you adding an allergy med (benadryl for a quick check if it's an allergic reaction, then on to a long-term med, like zyrtec).

I'd be flushing the eyes with a human tear replacement drop, like theratears, just for some relief... not at the same time as the antibiotic drop, though.
Sorry you pup is so uncomfortable. Hope you can find and fix the root cause soon!!

My neo has entropion. The heavy skin on his face makes his eyelids turn inward and the eyelashes scratch his cornea in one eye, which has resulted an ulcer. However, the signs aren't quite the same as what your dog is experiencing. His eye is cloudy with some mucousy discharge, and he is rarely bothered by it (we use Optimmune in his eye twice daily). Did your vet actually do a bacteria test on the eye, or did he/she just assume it was a bacterial infection because they didn't find anything in his eye just by looking? Did they also test the tear production?

imo , entropian really is something that should be fixed on an adult dog , it will cause an eye issue as they get old ...... when it's on a pup you can sometimes just keep rolling the eyelid out and it will clear up as the dogs head grows ...... a vet will keep it turned out with a stitch left in for a couple weeks , it's really simple , and I've seen that work really well ...... i think they sometimes need to remove a wedge of skin on an adult sized dog ...... another possibility is an inward growing eyelash which I believe they remove with a laser .......

We had this issue with our rottie, we tacked it while his head grew/filled in but after his 3rd tacking surgery because he kept popping sutures we did a conservative removal that we could take more as an adult if it warranted it but that would allow him to not need the tacking while growing. In an adult I think I would be fixing that if it was the problem.

We have been switching his foods for a while now (8 weeks we keep him on it to see if his ears heal). At the moment were are on LID Natural Balance bison. We eliminated all chicken, salmon, lamb. He is also on otomax once a week for a month. I agree the symptoms getting worse aren't good. In fact it took me a while to respond because I myself needed to see an eye dr. Lack of oxygen ( felt like shards of glass on my eye) from contact use.. If he's going through that I cant even imagine.. We originally thought allergy and were using human allergy eye drops. Then we went to Dexacidin ( steroid) after a week we had our follow up and it seemed worse( redness and see an ulcer). Now hes on Tobramycin with follow up monday (3/27). In the mean time I called a eye specialist and it's a month long waiting list so he's scheduled for there 5/2.. I looked at his eye just a few min ago and the white ulcer now is red. I took a pic and you can see it clear as day..
I never thought of the benadryl Ill have to ask about that. Thank you!

Thank you for sharing. He does have thick mucous that I wipe away. However Enzo does blink literally every few seconds and his eyes are constantly wet. Honestly I don't know about the bacteria testing. Once they put the drop in his eye to numb it and use the cotton swabs I kinda just froze and was nervous. I thought we finally figured it out he has an ulcer and nothing was under his third eye lid and no loose hair or debris. The fact that after the meds he has been on and now its going into his other eye as well as the ulcer now looking red ( took a pic of it) Im just confused. He goes back monday and Im on a waiting list for an eye specialist in the mean time.. Just I dont want to wait until May to figure this out..

I would correct it if that's indeed what is wrong. Im not sure if it was entropian. I just looked at possibilities and it seemed to have a lot of similarities. I will mention the eyelash growing inward on monday. Only thing that would confuse me about that is why would it spread to the other eye? Not saying it can't happen just makes me think it's something more. Thank you for your suggestions...

Im not 100% sure if it's what he has. Did your rottie have these kind of symptoms as well?

Good luck with treating the pannus. Hope he feels better soon! Keeping his eyes out of the sun might help it from getting worse too.

Thank you !! The vet suggested that as well with the UV rays.. Also tested his tear production ad it was over 35 so he won't need drops for that . I'm just happy for answers finally and a diagnosis. Even though it will be long term treatment.
