I heard that they carry tuberculosis as well. Be careful with disposal. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you that this one was flying solo.

Raccoon and skunk are more likely to carry rabies. Not common in opossums at all, talked to TN Wildlife about it several years ago. Still do not like them!

In the past 4 years, 7 possums have been dragged through the doggy door. All of them were still alive when we found them in the morning. Only one acted alive upon discovery. He was clinging desperately to the screen on the kitchen window. The other 6 played dead until I tried to pick them up.
The raccoon they dragged in last week, however, was definitely dead.:yuck:

After I went & changed my pants, I got a Rubbermaid container with a lid & a broom; swept the little bugger in the container, took it outside & dumped it in the woods.
