Puppy Weight

Hi everyone. I'm quite new to this forum so this is my first thread. We lost Ada, our beloved and only 5 years old Fila during Christmas due to stomach torsion/bloat. She didn't survive the operation. Now we have bought a new puppy, but I'm a little bit concerned about the weight of this little girl. She, Zorra, is now 14 weeks old and weighs 30 lbs. Is that an acceptable weight? Our first Fila was larger and heavier at the same age. Greetings from Thuren.

Welcome to the forum Thuren!

So sad to hear about your first girl, it's a terrible heartbreak to lose one :( I'm also very new to Filas and mastiffs in general, but my puppy who just passed away was only 7.4 pounds at seven weeks old. His sister who I have now (the only parvo survivor from a litter of eleven) is only eleven pounds at ten weeks. Sickness obviously has taken its toll on her, but I thought it might give you a comparison! I'm sure those with better experience will be here soon. As everyone else will also say, we'd love to see pics by the way :)

My male EM weighed 39lbs at 14 weeks. I discovered that there is a large range of what is "normal" or "good" for the weight of a puppy. As long as she is a good body condition you likely just have a smaller puppy. That's not to say that she will definately stay small, she might just be a slow grower like Kryten.

30lbs @ 14 weeks is right on target. Remember leaner is better for proper joint development. Good luck with her.

So sorry for your loss. Our male was 28 pounds at 9 weeks. He gained about 4 pounds a week if I remember right.
