What is the obsession with this topic.

Every month someone post's a similar thread, and sure enough they have owned every large dog dog breed under the sun and it just wasn't tuff enough. I would ask why didnt you train your EM, American Bulldog, or Pitbull to do the job as they are totally capable ? If you currently own an EM, why not just get a security system and or a gun, that should surfice.

In NY this is where somoone would say " I call Bull sh*t "

Belgian Malinois - not sure why I typed German..

There's a reason why 99% of world military and special ops along with 90% of the US police agencies use this breed for protection/bite training/guarding ?

Tested tried and true, this is the only breed created with the sole purpose to defend against man, ever seen one work? They are amazing dogs.

Be blessed!

The reason why there so readily used is there size....that is all... if you need your pp dog to run and aprhend a fleeing subject then track his narcotics and jump through a window to get his buddy then yea well they would do okay but uh there are dogs that are better for personal protection and yes I'm one of the few people who work there dogs in PP on this site I'd take a presa, cane, or a good Bandog any day for a PP dog have you seen any of them work? A good mastiff is better then a good shepherd though a good shepherd is typically easier to find another reason there so popular...

There is no obsession its a fact that that's what dogs are supposed to be used for and if someone wants to know what kind of dog would best be used to protect there house then I know personally I'm all for helping... sometimes you need that extra 30 sec to grab your gun... some people don't believe in guns... and all but the AB you said make HORRIBLE protection dogs on average...and when your not home and or your 16 yr old is I'd personally want her staying with a dog that I know would throw there life on the line protecting my family...the world is a crazy place and the police take to long and guns aren't always on your hip but my dogs are always laying at my feet

I've seen a few CC & Presa in working fashion, like any breed you will run across some that fit the bill but they are few and far between.. that doesn't discredit them being great dogs.

Size is a benefit of the Malinois breed in tact situations but the prey drive in the breed is unmatched, there's a reason they are the standard other PP dogs are judged against.

I agree with you on the fact you can train the breeds you mentioned for PP but the effort in that vs the finished product with the Malinois aren't even close, when people's life depend on it there's no second guessing the dog/breed, that's the reason you see so many Malinois in the work force of PP. With that being said I wouldn't trade our lab and EM for any other dog in the world.

Get yourself a 12g.. stay put in your room and call 911.. if someone is brave enough to enter your bedroom door.. God bless them!

Well said Tiger! Police take for ever! Molossers are part of the Guardain Group. Why wouldn't we be obsessed with this topic? Bull sh*t is turning a molosser into a lap dog or a gentle giant. Hmmmmm ... Should we have been discussing how we can get our molossers to do stupid pet tricks on the David Letterman Show or should we have been discussing behavior modification strategies on how to extinguish defense drive? These statements make me sick. Why is that you guys think that every person with a guardain breed is trying to be tough. WTF is that about? I realize there's some ignorant bumpkins out there but not many. Hmmmmmm ... Do you ever stop to think that there's actually a purpose for these dogs and it's in there DNA? Which means that there's no protection training required. Do you realize how unique that is? This is why this is such a popular topic. Especially when people buy a molosser, be it DDB, BM, BB, DA, Neo, CC, thinking it has solid temp (because that's what it was originally bred for), only to find that their dog prefers a graceful gallop over a perimeter check due to breeders with that philosophy that we need to water down the breed. That's why people are always talking about this breed over that breed. And once they've owned every large dog breed under the sun like you said they come to one conclusion. "I should have gotten a CAFIB Fila." Sorry, couldn't resist myself. :razzberry:

You cannot train an instinct. Protectiveness is instinctual, not trained. Guardian breeds are supposed to have this quality "out-of-the-box". The only thing one should "call bullsh!t" on is the fact that so many guardian dogs are produced with little-to-no natural protective instinct.

I just rescued a male and female English Mastiff with quirks none of my others had. I have never owned a Cane Corso, Fila, or any other type that are being talked about here. BUT I like their quirks. They have some issues that will need an experienced professional to help me with. My past dogs were friendy and that was fine then. Now I think I like having dogs that are protective of me. I would rather have a true guardian pin down an intruder than shoot an intruder and find out soon after I shot a 15 year old thug kid.

I just had this same exact discussion on another forum where people were saying it is plain unethical and irresponsible to breed Filas with the proper drive and Ojeriza... I damn near lost my mind! I also almost got banned for going against a moderator stating that Filas have no place in today's society and the thread got locked... I swear some supposed "dog" people literally know shite about dogs in general and even less about specific dog breeds...disgusting.

People are nuts!!! I feel like if a person wants to get a dog and train them for PP I am sure the people on this site are doing it for a very good reason. Although not everyone is going to agree with it, people should be able to do whatever training they feel fit for their own circumstances. Take a moment and realize wouldnt it be more responsible for an owner of a guardian breed to train them in guardingship, for thats is what they are breed to do. To know the reaction of your dog and be able to control it and bond with your pet. It makes no sense to me to want to get a powerful breed and treat them as if they are not, simply get a different breed of dog. I applaude people who are responsible at working their dogs and keep up the good work

Dogman I bet you did lol. :D Also I agree I cringe when certain "dog people" spout out misinformation. I had one person tell me on another forum that they rescued a fila who was the most "sweetest dog that loved everyone - human and dog alike."

lol, I was just cruising on the internet for fila related things and came across it on the "daily puppy", never even heard of it before and have no idea how i even found it. The funny thing is it (the forum) is run like a dictatorship... the moderator who locked the thread is supposedly the longest standing moderator and everyone in the forum is scared of her especially the other moderators, lol. I got 7 PMs from other members in that forum telling me how wrong the mod was and how right I was but few posted... when I asked why they said that noone had ever stepped on her toes before me... and that was it... who the hell was that nut case and why the hell does she seem to have so much power over other nut jobs? BTW it will be pretty obvious who I am on that thread...same name, lol.

Wow, that thread is f*ed up!
I like how the moderator locked the thread instead of responding to your truths.
