RE: Blood spotting

I've got an intact 7 year old male Cane Corso and I've been seeing droplets of blood on my floors and he has a slight discharge. I took him to the vet and they gave me antibiotics and meds for inflammation. They told me since he is intact it would probably be best to neuter him.

Neutering my dog is the last resort but if its best for the overall health then I'll do it. I just wanted to see if anyone else on here had the same issue and what solved it.

I heard that neutering will make him more prone to cancer, although it obviously would eliminate testicular cancer. Messing with hormones does lead to unintended consequences. However, since he is 7 years old, I think the risk and effects would be minimal. Neutering will also reduce the risk of an enlarged prostate, which leads to incontinence issue and urinary tract infections. Traditional vets have been indoctrinated with the idea that you should always neuter and spay your pets because of the overpopulation problem with animal shelters, but personally, I just think it's not a problem if you are a responsible owner. I see pros and cons that you have to weigh, and it's your decision.
