Our Boerboel will be 7 Months old on the 14th. Her temperament (so far) has been very laid back. We walk/trot twice a day with lots of toy play and training throughout and she is content. She loves lounging on the porch and can be quite lazy and a bit stubborn. It takes her FOREVER to get out of her bed in the mornings and she does it in her own time. This is a bit annoying if we are in a rush. She does not like to be alone. Ever. Definitely Velcro. Her guard instinct is mostly in the back yard when she hears neighbors or other animals but otherwise is very sweet with the kids and all their friends who are forever coming in and out all day/evening. Walking on leash at the beach or in town is great fun for her. She makes friends very easily but tends to be cautious with other animals. I think it’s a leash thing tho. Off leash, she is much more at ease when socializing with dogs. Each dog is different. Our girl is sweet, curious and loyal but she is still young and I imagine we’ll see some changes as she matured. We’ll continue to socialize her and take her everywhere possible. I’m still trying to get used to the drool. Happy Friday!
Some recent pics from around the house.

Each dog is different, that's for sure. I heard Bullmastiffs were velcro, but mine is not as velcro as I would have imagined. My AB was definitely velcro, but my Bullmastiff seems to enjoy having time alone in the backyard and doesn't always want to come in when I open the door. He will follow me around for a short time when I get home from work, but otherwise he's really not too clingy. It's ok with me really. The nice part is we never had any problems with separation anxiety. He is very friendly with guests we know who come to the house, but he is cautious when he meets new people. On the flip side, he's a great watchdog because he is suspicious of strangers who walk by.

Lover boy skyline you make a good point about exercise needs I suppose borerboels need a great deal more exercise than bullmastiffs, so it definitely soemthing worth keeping in mind.

Wow, d-stack only 7 months old, so huge already.

It will definitely be a tough choice of boerboel vs bullmastiff for my next dog.

I think she's coming along just fine. Just feed her a healthy diet and she will grow to her potential. No need to overfeed her. I saw the biggest Weimeranner I've ever seen at a dog park the other day. He must have been at least 28 inches at the withers, but he was all skin and bones. The owners rescued him and said they will be feeding him so he gains weight. Apparently this dog was undernourished, but he was huge.

Bentley is 8 months old now and doing great. He is 26 inches tall and solid. He's built like a defensive back, not a lineman, and that's how I like them, strong and athletic. I haven't weighed him but I'm guessing 110 give or take a few pounds either way. The standard says 25-27 inches and 110-130 pounds.

I have noticed that Loki is very good on and off leash when on walks, she won't stray from my side off leash and will come over 95 percent of the time when I call, is this trait found very often in mastiff breeds because of their velcro like nature?

She seems to love people and is jumping up at them to greet them something I need to train out of her as I have lots of nieces and nephews, so any tips would be appreciated.

She still seems nervous when meeting other dogs/puppies soemthing I hope gets better over time.

A lot of trainers say try totally ignoring her when she jumps up, and be quick to pat her when all 4 feet are on the ground.
With regards to other dogs, respect her space. I really think its important that her wish to stay away from them is respected. Its enough to be in their presence at a distance to socialize. I've seen a lot of dogs become reactive because their humans allow other dogs to come and climb all over them. I would really say keep her away from puppies, let her be with calm adult dogs that almost ignore her.. if you can find a friend who has a dog that likes puppies, and ask that dog to lie down at a distance from her and let her approach if she wants to, this is the best way to introduce.

Loki is 4 months old today.

8 weeks old - 8.4lb - 9 1/2 inches
9 weeks old - 11.4lb
10 weeks old -14.4lb
11 weeks old - 17.2lb
12 weeks old - 19.8lb
13 weeks old - 21.8lb
14 weeks old - 24.4lb
15 weeks old - 27.4lb 14 inches
16 weeks old - 31lb

House training is taking a lot longer than I would have expected, I had my old labrador house trained in 3 days, but Loki is only now just starting to learn still 1 or 2 accidents a day but have managed to cut accidents down significantly, she is still nipping alot although not as much, her teeth have now begun falling out.

Her right ear seems not be conforming to breed standard, is it worth taping it or will it eventually lay normal?

The only reason to tape the ears is for appearance. If you're going to show her, then tape them. If not, then you're doing it for vanity (which I'm not saying is a bad reason, it's just a reason). I don't think there are any health reasons against flying ears. In fact, it means the ear canal is more exposed, which is actually a good thing because dogs with erect ears have less problems with ear infections.

I have just came back from a weekend in the countryside, and the estate where I was staying had a lot of people/familys.

Loki was barking and growling when she spotted people in the distance, other familys or kids playing, etc.

Sometimes just people walking past, and this confused me a little as I was made to believe their guarding instinct doesn't develop until a much later date.

She didn't seem to be picky about who she barked/growled/grumbled at either, will she become better as she ages in terms of being selective with who she warns to keep away, or is there soemthing I should be doing to lessen the barking?

IMO again IMO, it was likely fear, brought on by the new setting and not likely guarding / protection instinct, But that will come in time..
