Undesirable genetics

If I were to breed a corso (female) with undesirable colors like brindle points would those puppies be more likely to have the same color and undesirable traits or would it be the same chances out of any dog from that (females) litter?

I'm not a breeder and my breeds of choice don't have points (just brindling), so hopefully someone with more working knowledge will give you an answer. I do, however, have an interest in color genetics. I believe that it would depend on the dog she was paired with. I believe that in order to have points, the pups must inherit a copy of the gene from both the sire and the dam. It's my understanding that you'd have to know if the sire is a carrier of the point gene. Without knowing that, I'd say there is a chance that some of the pups could have points. Of course I may be totally wrong, lol. There are some really good - and scientifically detailed - articles on color genetics online. It's a interesting subject.

Is purposely breeding a pointed dog something a responsible CC breeder does? I thought that pointed dogs were against the breed standard. Like I said, CCs are not my breed, so this is a serious question.

There are always discussions about colour in a breed and in the corso world there are always more than a few. The issue (and this is my understanding from talking with those of far more knowledge in colour genetics as I haven't produced it so haven't looked into it too deeply) is that brindle is a pattern and not a "colour" like black, fawn, etc. To have brindle be present you only need one parent to present for it where as you would need both parents to be carriers to produce the tan points (which are a DQ in our breed) so while the brindle part of that topic is not a problem, the brindle is simply an overlay of the tan points that are underneath which in our breed is a problem.

In the corso, pointed dogs are a DQ and @Boxergirl I don't know of any responsible breeders that breed pointed dogs, and I don't recall any that breed brindle points for the same reason. I am sure it happens (there are 1000s of corso breeders) but I don't think those doing it are viewed as responsible breeders.

Thanks BlackShadow. I could tell you what the probability of color is with a boxer litter (fawn/brindle/white), but that's really the extent of my knowledge. So are the points always brindle in a Corso or can they be solid?

They can be solid as seen in Rotties or Dobes or they can be brindle but you can't have brindle points without there actually being tan points unlying (does that make sense) however you can have points without brindle pattern.

In fact, we can combine improbable races, but above all it must be the same discomfort I think.
