Mastiff Puppy with Chin Acne

This is a little help for anyone out there fighting chin acne on their pup like we were. My little guy is 11 months old now and tipping the scales at 178lbs. We have been battling chin acne with him for a couple months now. We took him to the doc and he was put on antibiotics. They cleared up his acne, however as soon as he stopped taking them the acne returned. We tried various types of wash, cleaning his food bowls and he has always had stainless steel food and water bowls. Unfortunately we could never get it to clear up. Recently another friend with a mastiff suggested that we need to clean his face immediately after eating. That his problem was most likely from the oils in his food. So we began to wash his face with gentle baby wipes after each meal. At first it didn't appear to be anymore help than any other techniques we have tried. After about a week we noticed the bumps began to go down and now nearly two weeks later his bumps are almost gone. So if your pup is suffering from chin acne try these techniques to help them out:
-Use stainless steel food and water bowls
-Clean the bowls after each meal and each time you fill the water bowl
-Keep their chin dry (as best as you can)
-Wash their chin after they eat
I know that seems like a lot of more effort to raising these wonderful furbabies but it is necessity if they are suffering from chin acne. These bumps can be extremely irritating to the pup and possibly get infected causing them to get sick. Sorry for the long post but I wanted to share our experience and maybe help out a new mastiff puppy owner out. Hope this helps someone and enjoy your guys pups, mine has been a wonderful addition to my family.

I agree with all of those. I also use a a cider vinegar (with the mother) wash. As with humans, the worst of the acne does seem to resolve after they're out of the adolescent phase. For us it was around 2 years.

I want to add: check your dogs toys too. If they are the fuzzy kind and are worn and old, throw them out. If they have worn out chewys or bones, throw them out too. They could get chin acne this way too.

Yes! Michele is right. Rubber toys were an issue for one of my boxers. I'd forgotten that as I don't buy those kinds of toys anymore. Bones were a big issue for Ella too. I had to be sure to wash her face very thoroughly after she had one.

I hadn't thought about the toys and bones. We usually wash their fuzzy toys weekly, along with their beds. My mastiff loves his bones and almost always is chewing on one. We figured it would be better to have him chew on those instead of something he shouldn't. We will definitely start cleaning his face after he has had one.
