New EM Puppy Bane

I figured. But look at his face! You could make that into a meme.

That‘s true! Great idea! We are getting him ready for the CGC test now. I have been in contact with the VP of the MD Obedience club and she can administer it. There is also an AKC Star Puppy test, which is kind of a pre-CGC test. We might do that one first as a test run. A lot of practice on people petting him, another person taking his leash etc.
We usually drop him off at grooming for 2-3 hours and he‘s good with being handled by other people. Also, he‘s good with all the commands, so I think he‘ll pass. Will keep you all updated. I believe it‘s a good thing. Especially for larger dogs.

If we ever decide to move back to Germany, it can be beneficial. Multiple Mastiffs are on the list of potentially dangerous breeds (among many other breeds) in some states, so he would have to be tested if decided to move to one of these states. I believe there have been discussions on removing the EM from the list. As far as I know, he made it to the list primarily because or size, rather than temperament. Other breeds on there are Am. Pitbull Terrier, Amstaff, Fila Brasileiro, Dogo Argentino, Tosa etc.
I don‘t believe it is as strict as in the UK.

He looks great! Very muscular. These big dogs do change our lives. It is hard work, but after the first 2 years it does get easier. They bring such joy, and are extremely loyal. Bane does look happy, and healthy. He looks like a loyal friend. It sounds like he has brought a lot of joy to you and your wife. It's like having a big drooly teddy bear :)

That‘s exactly right. We still can‘t believe how fast he is growing. He was the biggest of his litter, and his parents are big too, but it‘s still impressive. I guess he should be pretty much done at 33“ heightwise. Can‘t wait to see Logan at that age :)

Definitely do Star Puppy. It's a good foundation and will give you an idea if you need a little extra work for the CGC. It's not a hard test to pass if you have done basic obedience work with him. Maybe work on someone dropping something loud in the vicinity. Some dogs have a problem with that.

Those last two pictures are so funny. And I just have to say that Bane is such a boy. He *looks* like a boy. Ella looks very girly in comparison to him. He's very handsome.

He definitely is a typical boy. However, one of our neighbors keeps asking (every day), "how is your girl doing?“. It‘s hard to miss when he stands right in front of you.

Look at that big bear watching t.v.!! Your right Boxergirl, Bane is masculine. He's so handsome. And he looks very approachable. I bet you get a lot of people wanting to pet on him.

Thanks. Yes, he‘s very approachable in general, but makes clear who he likes and who he doesn‘t like (like us humans I guess). He is a very good dog and can now be fully trusted in the house. He has never really destroyed anything. Although he‘s very big, you sometimes wouldn‘t know that he‘s there. Very quiet and calm inside the house.

Bane is 11 months old now and weighs about 192lbs. He is about 33.5 in at the shoulder.

He's going to be massive!! 33.5 inches! And correct me if I'm wrong, don't mastiffs grow in height till around 18 months? He is tall!! How big is the vet estimating him to get? He looks great, well proportioned.

I believe they can theoretically grow until that age. Their growth paterns are all somewhat different. However, I honestly don‘t think many vets have a clue. They keep saying, "he should probably have reached his final weight by now. Don‘t expect much more growth". They‘ve been saying this for month. Ultimately, it really doesn‘t matter, but I guess he will fill out more. Probably not much more in terms of height. The breeder expects him to be somewhere around 230lbs by 3 or 4 years of age.

Lol! Your so right about most vets. Thankfully Logans vet has an EM. So she has some experience, though not w a CAS. But they aren't very popular in the states. Bane must come from a good stock. He's tall like a Dane, but solid and massive (not overweight ) I think he will fill in till he's around 3 years old. I can't wait to see him all filled out! :) I'm interested to see if he gets even taller. Keep us updated.... Good breeder!

Bane turned one this Tuesday. I still can‘t believe it. Thanks to you all for your encouragement, guidance, and help during the last month. It has been an interesting and rewarding journey! Looking forward to the years to come. Bane‘s official weight is 195lbs as of his 1st birthday.

No way! That seems like the fastest year ever! He looks great. Happy birthday Bane! So that purple pig .... how's it holding up? I met a lady at a local nursery that swore by it for her destructive American Bulldogs.

Thank you! The pig is by far his favorite toy. He has had since he was 12 weeks old. It still works and hasn‘t been damaged at all. He‘s not necessarily an aggressive chewer, but easily destroys nylabones. All things considered, it‘s a great toy. Very durable, it keeps him busy, and the price was $5 or less. I personally do highly recommend it. As far as I remember, we bought it at Walmart.
