World's Ugliest Dog!

Well, here it is, the final straw....one of our own has been named the World's Ugliest Dog. Everyone here knows that our Mastiffs are the most handsome and most beautiful dogs in the world, wrinkles, farts and all. And Martha, the Mastiff from the story, is in a word "GORGEOUS!"

Beauty may be in the eye of the beholder, but, Martha, you can be Queen of Our Hearts!

Every wrinkle is kissably beautiful. And this girl has had a sad, rags-to-riches-type story. I wish her a long and healthy life with her acreage and her pond and her loving new home, and parents....oh, and also her new pack member the lonely St. Bernard.

Even as a neo owner, I wasn't upset about it at all. I was glad that she won money for her rescue to save more dogs! Martha was undoubtedly the best looking dog there, but every year the winner has been some little hairless dog, which might be the reason why a big, wrinkly dog won this year. I just wish the media presented the story better, and emphasized that all dogs, no matter what they look like, deserve a loving family.

The only thing I worry about is the possibility of more people wanting a neo, and more backyard breeders trying to meet the demand. And not all neos are as laid back and friendly as Martha (mine isn't!) and I could easily see people dumping their neos when they realize these dogs are much more work than expected.

I saw it too and was mad. I think she is absolutely gorgeous! I saw some of the other contenders (scrappy little rat dogs mostly) and they definitely were easily more deserving of the "ugliest" title. Poor Martha. Dumb people. Don't they know Neos are absolutely gorgeous beauties?

I never thought of this, but, oh, it's a scary possibility. Too many pups are tossed aside when people finally realize they bit off more than they could chew, and Mastiffs, all Mastiffs, fit in this category. We have been blessed and lucky with ours, that they fit the "Gentle Giant" moniker, but we've all heard of others, the result of bad breeding and irresponsible BYBreeders. Let's hope this one passes unnoticed by that fringe of society.

Yes, some of the dogs were actually ugly! But it seems like those Chinese crested dogs win every year, and the judges needed to mix it up this year with a giant dog that has a droopy face. Martha could have just as easily won a beauty contest though. She is better looking than a lot of neos I've seen.

Yeah, the worst excuse is the dog got too big. Hello? And you're right about a lot of them being genetically defective. The health problems are another big reason why people dump their mastiffs. I wish people would stop perpetuating this cycle.

I found this winner for ugliest dog to be a strange pick as well. Martha is a legit good looking pup. And if you search various sites, you'll be hard to find someone online who agrees with the choice; most agree Martha is a very pretty Mastiff.

It's rare I see a dog BETTER looking than Martha day to day, no exaggeration. Maybe it's like some of you were saying... they could only award so many hairless small dogs. Time to mix it up?
