First the back story:
My husband moved into our current house over 10 years ago when his mother moved in with her now husband. It is his mom's house and as rent we pay her mortgage. When she moved out she didn't want to take her cat , Candy, with her. She has a ton of birds and Candy had recently killed her favorite bird. My husband agreed to look after Candy when he moved in.
My husband's much younger brother, Steven, was a child at the time his mom moved and Steven considered Candy "HIS" cat. But, as a child he had no say in the entire matter. Now Steven is an adult and two months ago Steven decided he wanted HIS cat, Candy back. So we said okay and let her go home with Steven.
Fast forward to the day before yesterday and my bad dream:
I am an active dreamer. So this isn't entirely uncommon. My husband is use
d to my odd dreams and has been trying to get me to keep a dream journal for awhile now. As usual he asked me to describe my dream.
In my dream Cerberus was in the house with us (some of you may remember we lost Cerberus last year). There was no recollection that he had passed in my dream. Somehow our front door slammed opened and Cerberus went running out the door (not normal for him he was always so well behaved). In a panic I yelled his name and for him to come but he was off and running. So I went running after him and could not for the life of me catch up with him.... And then right in my path there was a dead cat. Which is when I woke up and woke my husband.
My husband said "I think Cerberus was just visiting you to say hello".
Back in the real world:
Later that morning Steven called us to let us know that Candy had gone into Liver and kidney failure and the vet was recommending she put to sleep as she would never be able to urinate on her own again and would be in severe pain without a lot of medication. That day Candy was put to sleep.
Later that night my husband said "I think I was wrong. Cerberus was visiting to tell us about Candy.
Candy and Cerberus were the best of friends when they were both alive and living with us. Candy used to sleep on top of Cerberus and he would let her kneed on him. They adored each other. Then again Cerberus adored everyone and everything and everyone adored him.
Goodbye Candy. You lived a long life and were well loved.
Gone at 19 years old.
She was always up for a cuddle. I hope she is snuggling Cerberus on the other side of the rainbow bridge now.
