That's so awesome that Solo will be going to school with you! From what I've seen here, I think he'll make a great therapy dog. That said, I'm going to offer some completely unsolicited advice... I would highly recommend getting yourself and Solo certified by a therapy organization to visit the school. If he's going to be performing the job, you guys should really have the insurance protection and the certification that he's a therapy dog. I volunteer at my local school with a special education reading class and at times with some at risk youth with behavior/anger issues. When you increase your dog's exposure to populations with behavior/emotional/mental issues or health issues, you increase the risk of accidental injury to your dog, yourself and the people you are serving. The insurance covers you in any of those instances. Unexpected things can (and do) happen, best to have the certification to back you up if anyone questions and the insurance in case anything happens.Being part of an organization also provides you with resources and guidelines to keep your dog, you and and your students safe, as well as tons of helpful information. The 2 biggest organizations are Pet Partners and Therapy Dogs International. I'm registered with TDI, one of the reasons I like it is because they only require you pass the evaluation once, where Pet Partners requires you to be re evaluated every 2 years. I would just look into it; there's no classes or specific training required, just that you and the dog can meet the requirements of the evaluation.
