Need advice- 11 mo EM in her first heat, friend wants to come stay w/female toy dog?

Our girl is in her first heat, which we planned for, and we're handling it as well as possible and already REALLY ready for it to be overrrrr. She started showing blood 9 days ago, so if I'm right, she will be at the height of the cycle this coming week....Tonight we had a friend ask to come and stay here in a day or two for 1-2 days due to a family illness, and we said yes. And THEN we remembered that our dog's in heat, and that the visiting friend has a female toy dog who goes everywhere with her. The two dogs have met once and were fine. They didn't become bosom friends, but there wasn't any drama. Ours is generally good-natured and curious about other dogs and pets, as long as they're not ultra-intense or aggressive, then she wants nothing to do with them and will do anything to get away.Quickly need advice...is this do-able, or a recipe for disaster? I have basically zero experience with heats except for a mini daschund about 25 years ago. Thanks in advance!

The board has been kind of slow lately and not everyone looks at every forum. I can tell you that my girl gets cranky when she's in heat. If it's only for a couple days I don't think it would be very hard to separate the dogs just to be safe.

I agree with BoxerGirl - let the friend know she might have to keep her pup well-contained, in case your dog is 'cranky'.... but, both being female, at least you don't have any worries about boy-hormones getting in a bunch. :)

Hopefully your girl will welcome some company.

Thanks, guys. I haven't heard if they're going to need to stay here now or not, so will just roll with it if they show up. Should be fine-- she's not cranky, (but *I* sure have been...lol)

Ella is never cranky with humans. Only other dogs.

Sophia is on heat right now and while she's mostly crated, I let her out of the crate under strict supervision - no issues. The only change in behavior is that she's more lazy and affectionate, she'll follow me all around the house. Jack is very interested, but no drama: just sniffing her a lot. Luna is not on heat but they all play as usually, no signs of aggression or anything.
