Your opinions on these two CCs?

Hi, I'm interested in adopting a CC from a good breeder out in Ohio (Trinity ). She's over 6 hours away, which is not ideal. One male is 18 months and has a slight underbite be half inch. She decided not to stud this handsome fawm. The other is a 5 Mos old brindle male. She said they are both well behaved, socialized and confident. She looks like she breeds thicker CCS then some other well known breeders. Can I just get your opinions on these two boys and their confirmation. I would not be breeding, just pets and doing obedience trials. Thanks

Even if you are just looking for Pet you should still try and buy from a reputable breeder. A good breeder is not in it for the money and does every health test possible (not just normal vet stuff) and has a health guarantee. If they show even better as showing proves the parents meet the breed standard and have the temperament required of showing dogs. What is their pedigree like? Did the line have any cancer or instances of bloat? Had the breeder had to take back pups? What is her policy if the dog is too much for you, aggressive, etc? What age are the parents and how many times were they breed? Does she own both? What kind of socialization plan did the pups have? What have they been exposed to? Why does she still have them? Make sure you research the breeder and their life extensively. Your talking about adult dogs really so their upbringing will be important. I also would expect their fee to be very low.

Thanks, my wife saw pic of the 18 month old and said he looks too thick. She likes the look of the 5 Mont old brindle male, but I asked breeder for pics. She does require a contract. Pretty standard and covers any genetic defects for 2 years. All test have been done on her dogs. Hips, heart, epilepsy. I do need to see pics of the 5 Mos old parents and their health testing. Also need to ask her why she still has two 5 month olds. Prices seem fair. 1200 for the 18 mos. Old. 1300 for the 5 month olds plus $300 if I want him cropped. Left her message waiting for call back. It really is easier buying locally. More expensive around here, but the breeders are winning shows. If that mean anything beyond confirmation. Thanks

I would not crop a dog that old. I don't really agree with it personally but if your going to do it, I would do it the standard 6-8weeks. I know some vets won't do it after 14weeks because the ear cartilage has thickened so much.

That is great news that the breeder shows! The OFA, DNA, CERF, etc are really important.

Remember the 18 month old is much more mature so if their line is stocky the 5mo old could end up the same way. 5 months is still really young so lots of thickening to be done still. You have to look at the parents to get an idea of what the pup will turn out like. Not a guarantee but it gives you an idea.

Hi, I spoke to breeder and told her I felt the large 18 month old male was too blocky for my taste and I preferred younger. She said the two 4.5 month old males were left for her to breed, but she has decided to under size. Showed me pics of parents and insisted that the pup is still young enough to have ears cropped. Not sure I will do it though, especially with a nake because their heads sre so large the natured ears look ok. Another popular breeder also said she could have a 6 mos old cropped properly. Breeder said this 4.5 month comes from different parents and slightly different lines. Taller and not as thick. Here are pics of parents and the pup. Opinions welcome. Thanks

Ask to see the health tests, if they are OFA you can confirm on their website. If they are tested (hips only) through PennHip ask to see the certificates. Do not take someone's word for it there are far too many claiming things and buyers not verifying it. There is no test for Epilisey so that isn't accurate. 1/2 inch is more than a little undershot and would be a pet. If they are winning shows ask to see their win record and the dogs that are winning as those are the ones that the ones that they expect to be most correct if they are putting them in in the show ring. Those prices aren't what I would call expensive for the breed, they are respectable provided the breeder is doing the health screens and showing as they say.

If you go here you can download/view the breed standard for the cc. They usually show pictures of correct and incorrect confirmation in the guides. Unfortunately the pup is not stacked very well in the pic but it will give you an idea - Cane Corso Dog Breed Information - American Kennel Club

The puppy is not well stacked but if you are just looking for a pet then as long as the rest checks out with the health screens and titles you think are important. Ensure their contract details exactly what the cover and how it is dealt with and what is expected of you as an owner.

The ears could still be done but you will have to find a vet that is willing to do it at that age. The pup from the second set from the pictures looks over angulated but is hard to tell from the pictures. If you can get some video of movement that might help.

In the end if you are just looking for a pet and this breeder has done the health screens and you are satisfied with their show records then you will be the only person that knows if they suit you or not. I don't recognize their names from the show circuit and have quite a few friends in the US that show but I can ask around.

Thanks, breeder is NOT showing. I don't remember stating that. My wife said she prefers to wait for a more local breeder. I still may ask for Penn hip certificate and see is she has them. The epilepsy was a 5 year guarantee against, my error. Thanksf

Mary, I see you work with Italica. They are local, but was hoping for an older pup. I have enough stress with my daughter and friends. I'm a stay at home dad. Lol. I think they have a litter coming soon. More money, but you know exactly what you are getting. Thanks

I have and I love Zoe and her dogs. She is one of my mentors and her dogs are doing well in the ring and as far as I know are health screened but you can ask for results I am sure. Older pups are nice and I do understand the appeal of an older pup, we have two young daughters that keep me running and daddy works up North, but if your daughter is like mine they love helping out.

You know what will work for your family, take your time and evaluate the options open to you. Pride N Joyz also has some lovely dogs and potentially puppies as well.
