  • Welcome back!

We decided to spruce things up and fix some things under the hood. If you notice any issues, feel free to contact us as we're sure there are a few things here or there that we might have missed in our upgrade.

Emma Swallowed a 9" bully stick and is still vomiting...

We got home from the ER around 2, the vet said to give her about a 1/2" of water in her bowl so she can't get too much at once so we gave her a bit last night then put her to bed in the laundry room. This morning she had vomited again. I went ahead and gave her some breakfast kibble (smaller portion) and another 1/2" of water. We'll see what happens. In the meantime I'm off to go mop the laundry room floor.... again. Sure hope the irritation calms down soon!

We are here now waiting for the doc. She was all happy bouncy when we got to the clinic so I'm sure I'm over reacting. More after the doc.

Imagine vomiting up something so large...I imagine it scraped the crap out of her esophagus and throat. She is probably pretty sore. I hope all is well.

Well she threw up her breakfast kibble so we are switching to rice and boiled chicken for a bit. She is not over doing the water any more, not sure if that is bad or good. Still drinking just not excessively and has only vomited once today. We will see how she does with dinner.

Just saw this and so glad to hear that Emma is ok. 9 inches is impressive little ladybug! I'd be scared too!

Ok, I need more input. Emma was able to keep the chicken down, she did not eat much of the rice. I tried her again with a half cup of kibble this morning and it ams back up around 10:00. She is clearly not feeling well, and I'm probably going to go back to the vet. At the e-vet Sat night she was fairly happy, up and walking around. If you didn't know her you wouldn't have seen the signs that made me take her in. They took her out of the room for the exam and the vet brought her back in and said she was fine. I don't know what he did to make that determination but i do know there was no imaging done because I was not charged for anything but the exam.

There is something wrong with her! I don't know what to tell them beyond the fact she is lethargic (I would be too if I hadn't kept any food down since Saturday morning) and she is still vomiting. She is drooling which she never used to do. If this is just irritation, wouldn't it be getting better? What do they have to do to see if there is anything wrong inside? Since she won't eat the rice can I just give her boiled chicken? How much should I give her? She has to have SOMETHING to eat or she won't get better but I'm still afraid there is something more serious that irritation. *sigh*

I am with you. There seems to be something more wrong. Definitely take her into your vet and explain what is going on. Maybe Xrays will show something? I am sorry the little girl is feeling bad. Please let us know what happens next.

Yes. I'd take her in now. Be pushy. You know your girl better than they do. I know you must be so worried. Please update us.

Dawn take her! Even if she is fine, you won't be fine until you have every base covered. I know, I'm doing the same thing with Kismet. It's just what we need to do right now. Also, insist that the vet let you be there for the exam, unless Emma won't behave because you are there.

I would take her back to the vet,she may have injured her throat
that's what i'd be thinking , i doubt it made it entirely into her stomach .......... maybe some injury to the lining in her stomach also ...... some meds like carafate would help in healing that ........ i been told for years not to give my dogs cow femurs , told it will break their teeth , i have yet to have a dog get a broken tooth from the bones , and if an when i do , i'll gladly take a broken tooth as opposed to what i've seen go wrong with some of these chews .........hope your girl is OK ....

If you think something is wrong, then bring her to the vet and maybe have them take xrays or put a scope down her throat. The vet should be able to tell what options you have.

Having worked at vets I'm sure they'd work you in. At least that would be considered an immediate appointment for us. Please do take her, vomiting for so long definitely warrants a vet visit due to dehydration risks alone. And do keep us updated.

Just back from the vet. The little fraud was all bouncy and happy when we were there, just like she was at the e-vet sat night. To look at her you wouldn't know she was feeling puny. This time he took some x-rays of her tummy. He said the tummy was empty but there could be some free gas in the tummy or abdomen. He is starting her on an IV and doing blood work while he waits for the radiologist to review the films. If the xray is inconclusive he will have the radiologist come out ASAP to do an ultrasound. I had to leave my baby at the vet. Bawled like a baby on the way home. She is in good hands and better to find something now than when it is an obvious problem. I'll keep you all posted.

Well, at least they're taking you serious this time!
I'm sure she's putting on a show for the vet... dogs don't like to show weakness in front of strangers!!

Denna & I are sending healing thoughts your way!!

Yep, I feel good about the decision to bring her back. This vet also had the benefit of more time. Honestly, I agreed with the vet Sat while we were there and even Sunday am, but when she did not improve, the time is the deciding factor in this and the reason my normal vet is being very proactive in her treatment.

@dpenning: I think you made a great decision to bring her back. I hope it's a simple situation (irritated throat).

Vet just called, radiologist looked at the film and said they need to go in to see what is going on. She is on IV fluids and antibiotics overnight and they will do surgery first thing in the morning.:pray::pray:

I'm sorry, but I'm so glad you listened to your gut and took her in. She's where she needs to be. Big hugs.
