Fila Brasileiro

Tiger, I will agree that any dog with such a heightened defense drive should probably be passed over although it can be done with enough training...People got to remember that these are still dogs and while it may be harder to teach them certain things it is most def. not impossible. BTW training to bring out drives and pp stuff starts way earlier than 1 yr old.. it usually starts at 6 mths. the dogs that the military or even police get are already "started" before the broker even gets them, that is partly how they are chosen.

I train PP dogs my friend lol you don't push defense that early i'm sorry you just don't you work in prey...there's also a reason most police dogs you get them at 3....I sure as heck wouldn't push a dog younger then
1 in defense and if you find someone that is willing too RUN...of course you could get a fila to do PP lol well maybe but why? there better off as estate guards seriously you're just asking for problems..you say there just dogs what have you that's like trying to get a rotti to retrieve ducks yea they could but really? Now everyone that's a guest they read this will think well he said you could do it and then someone let's there fila off leash and it mauls the mailman...there are dogs meant for PP then there is the fila....until you show me a fila that can out down escort and discrimanetly attack the bad guy during a code black situation I don't believe it......well I have more faith in an FCI fila to do it than a CAFIB...

Hey Guys, I feel a storm brewing. BTW, the MP guy is a friend of mine thanks to Facebook, lol. He retired from the Brazillian Army as an MP and is a police officer in Sao Paolo, Brazil. He trains police dogs for the Sao Paolo police Dept. He's a bad ass working the mean streets of Sao Paolo. Those were his personal dogs like Dogman stated and they're pups. Tiger, you have more faith in the FCI
than CAFIB when it comes to the FB?

lol Dogue, your nuts, lol.

Tiger, I agreed with you already when i said that it isnt the best dog for it... I said you start working on drives I didnt say defense drive...most pups dont have much if any defense drive in them at 6 mths but you can certainly encourage what lil defense drive they have w/o adding too much stress and potentially "breaking" them. It would take someone with extensive knowledge and experience to train a fila to do police work and no, it isnt the best dog for it and neither is the CBKC dogs...you need a fair amount of prey drive and most mastiff breeds in general dont have that to include the non cafib dogs, where did you get the idea that non cafib dogs carry all this extra prey drive? where would they have acquired it? This is not to say that there are some filas out there on both , CAFIB and non that have the prey drive nec. for that work but that is a huge roll of the dice my friend.

Personally coming from a person who has owned both cafib and fci they have both done the same thing for me. No difference, papers are just what they are papers. When I look for a Fila I don't look for cafib or fci I look for a strong temp. One that I know will get the job done when it comes to it.

Tiger I have seen my fair share of Prey driven filas, most were DA, how is yours with unknown dogs or other animals? I gotta say I dont particularly like it and dont think I would ever breed for that particular trait. They all have some level of prey drive but too much would be very undesireable for me. the video I posted of the dark brindle male...he is very prey driven and that is one of the things that I dont like about him. I guess for your purposes it is important just not for me.

Bellababy, Welcome to the forum. Where did you get your prior filas from? what ages do you get your filas or how do you select a particular pup? Glad to have anothe fila person to this mix.

Thank you and I have no idea I was 8 my first one I'm not sure where my aunt got them from and she has passed but we had them until i was 12 I know they were old school farm Fila of cafib origin but not sure of kennel that I guess was the last of my worry just wanted them to work the farm... We always picked the Fila that wasn't afraid to run up to you and attack your boot lol

Um DA not really not pitbull DA but protective definitely she will play with a dog and if they bark at my wife or my son all bets are off...but there is a Aussie that's digs craters to come to my yard and play around and she's ok with her......she can be dominant to other female dogs I've noticed

By the way I found out what CACIB is... It is an international title given by the FCI....parent organization of CBKC and FCPR. CACIB stands for: "Certificats d'Aptitude au Championnat International de Beauté (CACIB) - certificate for the title of International Beauty Champion (C.I.B. - International Champion). To get this title (International Champion) this dog must have obtained in ...3 different countries under 3 different judges four CACIB. A dog can get CACIB only on INTERNATIONAL Dog Show. There is only ONE CACIB for Dogs and ONE CACIB for Bitch - so The Best Bitch gets CACIB and Best Dog gets CACIB".

I knew there was no way that could be a CAFIB show, lol. BTW I am not saying there is anything wrong with training your fila to be able to tolerate that...that has to be some pretty intense training though. once a fila can tolerate people that close to it how is it possible to guage ojeriza at all? The dogs seemed well put together though and were actually quite balanced...liked.
