Poor Zoey got her Addisons shot this evening.
This use to happen every 25 days, but her Vet wanted to stretch it out a day longer every cycle to end up every 30 days.
So new she has to get the next one on the 3rd of Jan.
It is a painfull shot that has to be done in the muscle of her hip, it is a large needle with thick medicine that has to go deep into the muscle.
It makes me sad having to stick that needle into her, but she needs the meds and is doing so well on them.
I know it hurts her as she squirms and moves when I give it to her so I have to have my son or wifehold her head and put some weight onher body to keep her from moving.
I can tell she is sad, but she never holds it against me.
When we were all done she reached back and licked my hand.

Very sorry you and your girl have to go through this. About 17 years ago we had a Tosa that was diagnosed with Addisons and we also had to give injections every 30 day. There must be a newer medicine because ours was given subcutaneously in the neck. Because large dogs typically don't get Addisons our boy was misdiagnosed and we nearly lost him. Best of luck.

I'm sorry, but grateful they can control it. What's the injection? Lila has Atypical Addison's and she get's a 5 mg pill of Predisone each day. (Just curious)

Zoey gets the pred every day and shots of percorten V was every 25 days, but vet is stretching it to every 30 days one cycle at a time adding another day till she reached 30 days.
We did almost lose her too, she went in for an ACL surgery then crashed before the surgery.
She is now showing no issues with her knee so it was the addisons that weakened her rear muscles.

I'm sorry the shot is painful, but glad to hear how well she's doing. I lost my Ed to Addisonian Crisis. He was 10 at the time, so many of his symptoms (hind end weakness among them) were attributed to old age. Some mistakes were made while he was in crisis and he didn't make it. My new vet has a sign on his wall that says, "Is it Addison's?" We chased a diagnosis for his vague symptoms for over a year. I learned a lot.

I wonder about the shot. Both of my kids are diabetic and both say that the large shots hurt more. Temperature definitely makes a difference as well as injecting very slowly. Needle insertion quickly, but injection slowly. Slowly because if it's injected too fast there is more tissue displacement which causes discomfort (says the Endo). Just speculation, and the shot types are different, intramuscular vs. subcutaneous, but maybe?

Oh wow! I am soo glad that she is doing well...despite the pain of the shots.

Lila's AA also came with a diagnosis of Megaespohugus. It was because of the ME that we were able to diagnose the AA - up unit that point, I thought the really hot summer was just taking all her energy.

I am so grateful for the advancement's in veterinary medicine. I say a prayer for all the dogs that went before ours and allowed us to expand our knowledge. ...Sorry, just a moment of realizing how delicate life is.

Thank goodness that Zoey has such a wonderful daddy. I lost a rottie to Addisons also.

hope you give her good yummies and lots of love after her shot. :)

Yeah she gets a lot of love and praise and her favorite goodies after her shots.
Funny thing is that you would think she would hold it against you and shun you or give you the stink eye, but she doesn't.
She turns around and gives kisses, but she does get cranky with the puppy after her shots, I try to keep them seperated but you know how that works at times.
I too am a diabetic and take daily shots I make sure when I give her a shot that the meds are warmed up, I keep the vial in my pocket for about an hour.
But damn if someone came at me with a needle that big I would probably kick their ass.
