???? Puppy acne????

Crickett gets pimples on and off quite a bit. The vet did put her on an antibiotic way back, but she had a terrible outbreak...they popped opened and were bleeding. Since then I clean her stainless steel bowls twice a day and after she eats I wipe and dry the outside of her mouth. My vet wrote me a perscription for Mupirocin 2% Ointment that I had filled at my pharmacy. I use it whenever she has a pimple starting and it helps a great deal.

My puppy has this too, but its on her soft belly area where there is less hair. The Vet said don't worry too much about it unless it forms a hard nobule under the skin, then it means an infection in there. But to keep the area as dry as possible. She said it sometimes happens if they go wee wee and then sit down or roll in wet grass or something.. just keep her dry and keep an eye on it. I was told anti-itch would help but she said not to use that either because it holds the moisture in, just to make sure to wash it good and keep it dry. However if it did form any nobules to come in and get meds. But so far so good :)

so Jacks has this very same problem so I did some searching and found this
very informative and I have had my vet verify that they are benign and nothing to really worry about

if anyone else can chime in on this the more info the better Jacks acne looks identical to the pics already posted however he has it all over his face a little on the brow of his eyes and some on the inside of his ears. The stuff in the inside of his ears looks like the same pimples that we would get one had even popped and it really resembled a human pimple at first we thought that he was getting eaten by mosquitoes as he likes to sit out on the deck and does not seem to notice them biting him at all but now we are convinced it is not this I will post some pics.

IMG_0560.jpgIMG_0564.jpgIMG_0570.jpgso in the first pic you can see the little bumps around his eyebrows the next obviously shows his chin and the last one shows that even with acne he is still gorgeous

I don't think what is around his eyes is the same as on his chin. Maybe around his eyes it could be an ingrown hair? JMO

Yea however the bumps all have the same consistancy shape colour and the ones around his eyes are in groups not just one or two

So I have had a breakthrough in dealing with Jacks acne problem I stopped feeding him ground chicken and within a week of doing so his acne has improved dramatically I have also been very diligent in washing his bowls and wiping off his chin with a clean dry towel every so often. I am certain that the cause of his acne is a sensitivity to chicken.

Sounds like he was allergic to it. I actually ended up having to give her the antibiotics to clear hers up.

so the cysts on his lips have cleared and a few showed up on his head and neck two of them have been scratched off either by him scratching or by me brushing him one of the small wounds looks like a dime size scrape with fatty spots in it, it looks as though if you were to squeeze it, it may pop like a pimple. I dont like the look of these little wounds.

I would call the vet and ask them to look at it. May need an antibiotic to clear it up. Poor guy keep us posted.

If it is very localised use a spray or wipes with a 4% Chlorhexidene solution twice a day.

If it is worse use a Chlorhexidene shampoo (THIS one is great) 2-3 times a week, leaving the shampoo on for 10mins before washing off. Still use the spray and/or wipes twice a day.

If it is more than a few spots you should keep your vet abreast so that if it worsens, antibiotics can be given.

How old is she? Ella is on her second heat and I notice that her acne gets worse when she's in heat. I just keep washing her face after she eats and trying to keep her dry. It seems to bother me a whole lot more than it bothers her.

I would not do another round of antibiotics without serious thought and research. I honestly feel that it was the over use of antibiotics in the first year of Cane's that weakened his immune system and caused systematic yeast imbalance. Try some of the home remedies on this forum. If you do use more antibiotics make sure you use a probiotic.

I agree with Boxergirl, I think it bothers use a lot more than them.

Give Mystabitch a big hug.

She is 9.5 months. She has not come into heat yet. Do they look raw after a while? Cause last time this happened it started a bumps and then went to looking like little wounds
