CC breeder in the Midwest

The only 1 out of that group I would even consider is fortissima. When I was researching breeders I did make contact with them, but I found a breeder in my area that had more of what I was looking for. Here are a few more to consider in Ohio that I have had contact with. alcorcanecorsos.com and shipleycanecorso.com. Hope this helps.

We got our Gia from Shipley!! It was a great experience and she is such a sweet and beautiful dog!

We got our dogs from a breeder in Iowa, we are in Canada. I suggest that you don't limit yourself by location. Find a breeder with dogs that you like and you are comfortable with and go from there.

Del'Agreste Cane Corso. He doesn't breed often, 2 litters in over 10 years, and when he does he rarely sells to the public.

Just outside Iowa city :) You can find him on Face Book. He has a kennel page there with pics of his dogs.

We had a Fortissma CC - she was HUGE!!! She was a great dog, had a few hip issues, which was normal because she was so large. She was protective, but a great dog and was easily trained.

DO YOUR RESEARCH on the breeders!!!!

because she was a large CC does not make hip issues normal. I have met many huge CC with great hips.

Very true Cody - and good point. I always blamed her size mostly (she was 140) but I'm sure there were other factors. We lost her a little earlier in her life than we thought too, but never found the cause (suspected cancer).

I'm still myself, on the hunt for a good breeder around the Midwest - good ones are hard to find.

My first CC was 12 months when we had to put her down. She had djd in both knees and her hips were not great... she was only 86 lbs.

Cody - this might be a dumb question, what's DJD? Our girl now is only two (MANY health issues) and has the beginning signs of arthritis in her knees, she also has mild displasia in her hips. She's only 82lbs. I'm can't link her knees and hips to her other health condition, and heard that there's a 30% chance it's from genetics. We're doing everything we can for her in the meantime (adequan injections, low impact exercise, etc.)

DJD is degenerative joint disease or more commonly known as arthritis. I know I'm not Cody but I thought I'd answer anyway.

Thank you!

Can anything be done to help this?

My EM has recently been diagnosed with DJD, amongst other issues, in his elbows and one thing I've started is a joint supplement that contains glucosamine, chondroitin and MSM. If you do a search for joint supplements or joint health for dogs you will find a bunch of ideas on how to help restore &/or maintain joint health. DJD is irreversible and progressive but you can try to limit how fast it progresses.

I'll take a look and see what I can find. I'm not sure how fast it progresses, does it just depend on the dog? We've had to stay away from joint supplement type treats as they make her throw up. It's strange, but it took me about a month of taking away things to figure out it was the joint treats. I may try straight supplements after I talk to my vet, but any sort of joint/hip type treats make her throw up, so I've avoided straight supplements. Sorry to hear about your EM - it's really sad for us to watch already, especially since she's only two! Some days she wants to run and play and others you can tell she's too sore. We're going to try swimming soon to see if that helps...

Sorry to get off topic everyone! I guess the moral of the story is RESEARCH YOUR BREEDER - ask a ton of questions!

Sorry just got home from work. Yes, our girl was pretty bad and would a e required surgery in both knees, as well as hips. He temperament was not good, all in all was a product of bad breeding :( We loved her, but keeping her alive was not in her best interest. Was a tough call and a harder day.
