Changing stool - confusing time!

Quick update - he's processing everything just fine :)

I was thinking of moving him to 2 meals of chicken (breakfast and dinner) and 1 full meal of beef (lunch). How does that sound?

And the next meat (probably week after next) - pork?

If he's up to that much beef then sure.

And yah, assuming nothing changes in the mean time a couple weeks out for pork should work.

I've been upping his beef intake over the last 4 or 5 days or so, and he's up to 75% beef 25% chicken for breakfast, 50-50 for lunch and 25% beef 75% chicken for dinner so far. His poop is fine (apart from smelling like a nuclear bomb!) and he's otherwise active (a little too much).

I thought of getting pork this time when I go out to get meat, to freeze it for a week before trying it out April onward.

It really sounds like things are working out well for you I'm happy to see that! I have noticed and also been told by others that pork can have a tendency to produce loose stools if the dog is not used to it so keep that in mind it may be an adjustment for him if the stools are loose for a bit after the pork. I just had an interesting raw moment, I woke up to find Jacks apparently needed to go through out the night and defecated all over the house! CRAP I'm thinking, then to my delight I see that due to the bone he had yesterday his droppings were all dry and crumbly! A quick pick up and a pass with the vac and it's all dealt with! :)

I tend to feed alot of lean meats to my two (I get alot of game and buffalo meat), and I actually have to add fat to their diet when I'm doing that. But yah, add to much, and its the runs for sure! They do adapt though. When I first started adding fat to their diet Arty would get the runs from anything but the tiniest amount. Now we're up to triple that before he starts having problems. I still haven't found Apollo's upper limit yet, so I just feed him as much as I'm comfortable feeding lol.

Sounds awesome! I'm gonna remember to keep the fat off. He suddenly has no interest in coconut oil, though. I wonder why?

Weight update - 42.43 Lbs 14 weeks :) Growth spurt this week!

Woohoo!

Donno on the coconut oil. My two eat it intermittently and I'm not sure why. They appear to like it alot when they'll eat it, othertimes not so much. Go ahead and skip it for a few days and see how he does without it.

Okay fish oil definitely giving him crazy bad gas! Have stopped coconut oil for now as well. Any ideas?

well, leave them off for the moment.....any idea as to whether the beef your feeding is grass fed or grain fed? If its grass fed the lack of fish oil is less of a problem, if its grain fed we may have to do some research into something else (or see what you can get for fish to feed down teh road)

Nope, absolutely no idea about the feeding. Like I've mentioned before, we don't have distinctions in cattle raising here. I can definitely get plenty of fish, lemme do some research on what the fish I get here are called there and let you know.

Right. Here's the fish I can get:

Basa - A type of catfish
Pomfret - Belongs to the "Bramidae" family. I couldn't find a US version of this name, though it might be Butterfish. Here's a blog about it - http://yetanotherfoodguy.wordpress.com/2010/01/28/indian-fish-101-pomfret/
Surmai - King Fish or Seer Fish
Bombay duck
Cod
Mackerel
Salmon (the white version)

Here's my rant:
What's okay, what's not?
Fish eggs yes or no?
Fish with the bones/thorns or deboned?
How long should it be frozen before giving it to him?

And THANK YOU in advance :)

You most likely are aware but just FYI - If my dog has really soft stools I give him extra bones (chicken on the bone, if they are to dry/hard I give him a little liver.) works great for me.
